Catalog Description: Extremely Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Unusual Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "CLINTON POTTERY," Clinton, Oneida County, NY, circa 1847, squat-shaped jug with rounded shoulder and semi-squared rim, decorated with a brushed cobalt wreath design surrounding a cross-shaped blossom. According to William C. Ketchum's The Potters and Potteries of New York State, "For a few months in 1847 the old redware kiln at Clinton in Oneida County produced salt-glazed stoneware under the partnership of John W. Gregory, Benjamin Lent, and Dwight W. Graves. Fewer than a half dozen marked pieces are known to survive." (Ketchum, p. 275). An exceptionally rare example of New York State stoneware. Large spout chip. Hairline in handle. 10 3/8"H

Mr. Roth of Syracuse NY was a regular at auctions and sales for many years and amassed a sizable collection of antiques, collectibles and decorative, many related to the Syracuse/CNY area.

All purchases must be removed at scheduled pickup date, Thurs. January 23rd 9am to 6pm or Friday, Jan. 24th 9am to 5pm by scheduled appointment from Moyer Auction & Estate Co. located in Alden NY.

The auction will close at a rate of 4 lots every minute. This auction features extended bidding. Moyer Auctions online auctions are timed events and all bidding will close at specified time, however, our auctions have an 'Auto-Extend' feature.

Any bid placed within the final 5 minutes results in the bidding on that lot automatically extending by 5 minutes. The bidding will extend in 5 minute increments from the time the last bid is placed until there are no more bids and the lot sits idle for 5 minutes.

This allows all bidding parties the opportunity and no one to be outbid in the last seconds without having the opportunity to bid again - just like a live auction.
